Engineered stone is made by combining quartz composites with pigments and resins to produce a hard-wearing, non-porous surface which is stain and chip resistant, lighter than granite, while retaining the physical and mechanical charactaristics of natural stone and comes in a variety of different colours.
Manufacture: The world's leading manufacturer is Cosentino. Based in Spain they are the largest producer of natural quartz surfacing and we are the premier approved fabricator for Cornwall. Silestone® is 93% quartz and the only natural quartz surfacing exclusively engineered with Microban antibacterial protection. Microban technology is evenly distributed throughout the material at manufacture providing a continuous level of antibacterial protection that cannot be removed or washed and worn away.
Application: Silestone® can be used in virtually any indoor surfacing application, including kitchen countertops, bathroom vanities, shower surrounds, backsplashes, floors, walls, wetrooms, tabletops and desktops.
Scratch resistance: Only three other natural minerals -diamond, sapphire and topaz - are harder than quartz, making Silestone naturally scratch-resistant.
